Tayammum is a form of dry ablution in Islam, performed when water is unavailable or harmful to use. It is a mercy from Allah, allowing purification through clean earth or dust when Wudu or Ghusl cannot be performed.

Reminder Tayammum is only valid when there's a valid excuse like no water, illness, or danger in accessing water.
Condition When Tayammum is Permitted
Absence of Water No water available after searching
Illness Water may worsen health or delay healing
Danger or Difficulty Reaching water poses risk or hardship
  1. Make Niyyah (Intention): In your heart, intend to perform Tayammum to purify yourself for worship.
  2. Say “Bismillah”: Begin by saying “In the name of Allah.”
  3. Strike both hands lightly on clean earth or dust: Use natural soil, stone, or dust.
  4. Wipe your face once: Use both hands to wipe your entire face.
  5. Strike hands again on dust: Lightly place your hands again on the dust.
  6. Wipe your arms up to elbows: First the right arm, then the left arm.
Note Tayammum breaks like Wudu and should be redone after events like sleeping, relieving oneself, or touching private parts.

“And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water — then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it.”

Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:6)
