Story of Prophet Idris (A.S)

Prophet Idris (A.S) was born during the lifetime of Prophet Adam (A.S). He was from among the followers of Prophet Sheeth (Seth) and succeeded him as the ruler over the progeny of Adam after his death. Idris (A.S) was an extraordinary man—truthful, patient, wise, and dedicated to Allah’s worship.

He led his people with justice and sincerity. But as time passed, the descendants of Qabil (Cain) fell into corruption, sin, and disobedience. Seeing this moral decay, Idris (A.S) could not tolerate the spread of evil and falsehood. Allah commanded him to rise against corruption and call people back to righteousness. Thus, Prophet Idris (A.S) became the first Prophet to perform Jihad in the path of Allah, fighting against transgression and injustice.

  1. He gathered the righteous believers and called them to Allah’s path.
  2. He fought against the corrupt followers of Qabil (Cain).
  3. By Allah’s will, he emerged victorious and re-established peace and justice.

Prophet Idris’s Ascension and Death

One day, Allah revealed to Prophet Idris (A.S) that he would continue to receive the reward of all good deeds performed by mankind each day until his death. Filled with gratitude, Idris (A.S) thanked Allah immensely, but he wished to live longer so he could continue spreading good among people.

Idris (A.S) requested an angel to intercede on his behalf and ask the Angel of Death to delay his soul’s departure. The angel carried Idris (A.S) upon his wings and ascended through the heavens until they reached the fourth heaven, where they met the Angel of Death.

“Prophet Idris wants to know if you could prolong his life,” said the angel.

— Angel’s request to the Angel of Death

The Angel of Death replied, “Where is Idris?” The angel responded, “He is upon my back.” The Angel of Death said, “How astonishing! I was ordered to seize Idris’s soul in the fourth heaven I wondered how it would happen when he was on earth. SubhanAllah, the command of Allah is fulfilled.”
