Pain is one of the greatest tests a believer can face. Whether it is physical sickness, emotional distress, or spiritual emptiness, Islam provides powerful and beautiful du'as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and found in the Qur'an to seek relief and healing. These supplications are more than words — they are a direct connection to Allah ﷻ, the ultimate healer and comforter.
"There is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its treatment."
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ - Sahih al-Bukhari 5678
Below are authentic du'as that the Prophet ﷺ recommended for pain, illness, or any distress. These du'as can be recited regularly, especially when feeling weak or suffering physically or emotionally.

Du'a for Healing and Pain Relief
Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ، اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
Meaning: O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm and cure [him/her], You are the Healer, there is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves behind no illness.

Du'a for Placing Hand on Pain
Arabic: Say: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ (three times), then say:
أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ (seven times)
Meaning: I seek refuge in the might and power of Allah from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.

Du'a When Visiting the Sick
Arabic: لَا بَأْسَ، طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Meaning: No harm, it will be a purification (from sins), if Allah wills.

Du'a of Yunus (When in Distress)
Arabic: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
Meaning: There is no deity except You. Glory be to You. Indeed, I was among the wrongdoers.

Du'a When in Anxiety or Sadness
Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ، وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ
Meaning: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and being overpowered by men.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ - Sahih Muslim 2202
The Prophet ﷺ encouraged us to rely on Allah while also taking action. Combining both medicine and du'a is the true way of the believer.
Can I recite these du'as for someone else in pain?
Yes. You can recite these du'as and blow over the person, or ask Allah to grant them shifa by name.
How many times should I recite these du'as?
Some are recited three or seven times, as mentioned in Hadith. Others can be repeated often throughout the day with conviction.
Can I use these du'as along with medicine?
Yes. The Prophet ﷺ used both spiritual and physical means for healing. Both are from Allah ﷻ.
