As Muslims, our beautiful faith teaches us to maintain cleanliness, dignity, and mindfulness even in our most private moments. One such daily act is entering and exiting the toilet. Islam provides us with specific du'as (supplications) and etiquettes to follow, which not only purify our body but also protect us spiritually. These simple acts are part of the Sunnah and are highly recommended for every believer to implement.

Note Duas for entering and exiting the toilet are not only from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ but are also a shield against unseen harms and impurities.
Occasion Arabic English Translation
Before entering the toilet بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبْثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ In the name of Allah, O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils.
After leaving the toilet غُفْرَانَكَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنِّي الْأَذٰى وَعَافَانِي I seek Your forgiveness. All praise is due to Allah who removed from me the discomfort and granted me relief."
  1. Before entering the toilet, step in with your left foot and recite the du'a: “Bismillah, Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal khubthi wal khabaa’ith.”
  2. Maintain silence inside the toilet. Avoid talking, eating, or drinking.
  3. Use water for cleaning yourself thoroughly. Islam emphasizes cleanliness as half of faith.
  4. Avoid facing the Qiblah while relieving yourself if possible.
  5. Step out with your right foot and recite “Ghufranaka. Alhamdulillahil-lazi azhaba 'anil-adha wa 'afani” seeking forgiveness from Allah and thanking Almighty .

“Cleanliness is half of faith.”
